I hate diffusion lines. I share comrade Miuccia Prada's take that for the most part they are a bad copy of what one does for the main brand- she, like me, hates them. Nonetheless she does imagine a space for product that's Prêt-à-Porter . It just can't be a poorer facsimile.
“If I had an ingenious idea to do fashion that costs less but that wasn’t a bad copy of something else, with completely different criteria and ways of doing things, I would do it. Also for myself, it would be an ingenious idea." -Miuccia Prada
Well, I do have an ingenious idea and it's called Gamecock. The criteria for doing Gamecock are different than what Gaulzetti Cicli has done before and reflect the unique demands of cyclocross.
- The season is short.
- The sport is hard.
- The tool used is rarely the athlete's primary bicycle.
Gamecock is an off-the-shelf, stripped down, cyclocross race bike. There will be no choices here besides frame size, tire type and brake style. I am choosing your parts. I am choosing your paint and I am choosing you. We are only going to make forty of these things. They are all going to be the same color and have the same graphic treatment. There will be no alterations or adjustments of the geometry or parts specifications. They have the parts I want them to have. They are the color I want them to be. If you want different color bar tape- you can cut off the tape I put on the bike and buy something more to your liking from your local bike shop. I am stripping the experience down to the barest of essentials.
Gamecock frames are identical to our Cabrón models: The frames are built in the same Massachusetts shop, from the same materials and painted with the same quality. The difference here is that the Gamecock is available only as a complete bicycle with our pre-selected parts kit and in our Gamecock edition paint scheme. You choose sizing on frame, handlebar, stem and crank and whether you would prefer disc or cantilever brake options. That's it. Don't bother requesting any substitutions, because there aren't any.
I want this bicycle to be my client's second or even third bike. Cyclo-Cross is an off-season sport with a short season. There is little reason for a 'cross bike to be ones trophy bike and even less of a reason for it to be Gaulzetti Cicli's halo product. It's a stripped down race bike and there's no time or reason to wait, or think or ponder an abyss of options. I did all that for you already. I am making this part of your preparation for the coming season easy. Different criteria. Different way of doing things.
Race on it, train on it, beat on it from August to January. If you like, come back for that Corsa or Cazzo with Record EPS and Boras in the spring. We'll talk about the limitless finish choices, the merits of ceramic derailleur pullies and tweak the geometry to build your ultimate dream bike. In the mean time, you'll have the best sporting good on the course this fall, I promise.
*Prêt-à-Porter: Ready to portage - nice open triangle for that too.
